Group Descriptions and Selections

Nursery Care for ages 0 to 4

We offer nursery care from 9:30–11:30 a.m. every Sunday with two trained, background checked, experienced caregivers.

This is a drop-in program.  Older children welcome if space allows.

Soul Matters Workshops for Pre-K to 5th grades

Children in this age range are invited to choose from two workshop rooms each Sunday. This is a drop-in program; all in this age range are welcome, but some modules (see below) will require signing up ahead of time and committing to attend all/most of the weeks of the module.

The Play Workshop Room allows children to choose from curated play spaces (sometimes indoors, sometimes outdoors) and materials to decide for themselves how to spend their morning, with adult supervision. As Unitarian Universalists, we learn to make choices, with love at the center. This room will always be open.

The Story Workshop Room will encourage children to engage more deeply with the story or theme introduced in worship through a craft or other adult-led activity.  As Unitarian Universalists, stories help us make meaning from chaos. This room will always be open.

Elementary Our Whole Lives (OWL) for K & 1st graders and 4th & 5th graders

OWL for K & 1st graders supports parents in educating children about birth, babies, bodies and families. Following a Parent Meeting and Parent/Child Orientation, the sessions engage children with stories, songs and activities and include a weekly HomeLink - a homework project for parents and children to do together. This program will run for eight weeks starting in mid-September.

OWL for 4th & 5th graders helps tweens to gain the knowledge, life principles, and skills they need to understand and express their sexuality in holistic, life-enhancing ways. The revised edition includes new topics such as body image, social media/Internet, and consent; as well as an updated and deeper exploration of gender identity and roles. This program runs for 10 weeks (following an orientation) starting in February. These classes are only available to families who register ahead of time and attend the parent orientation.

2nd & 3rd grade Stepping Stone Program

Young people at the “age of reason” are invited to learn about our Unitarian Universalist history, heritage and identity. In this four-week program, they work together to create a class plaque with the Clay Lady, and prepare a presentation to share with the congregation in a worship service, affirming their faith journeys as young Unitarian Universalists.

Registration is required for children to participate.

Crossing Paths for 6th & 7th grades

This group will learn about a variety of faith traditions and the ways their religious paths differ from our own. This curriculum is being revamped this year to allow more in-depth understanding of each tradition and will include two weeks of learning about (in the classroom), two weeks of learning from (interviewing a guest and visiting a house of worship), and two weeks of integration (connecting what we've learned to our UU faith). This is a drop-in program; all in this age range are welcome. However, note that some Sundays will include a field trip to a neighboring place of worship and prior registration is needed to participate on these dates.

8th & 9th grade Our Whole Lives (OWL)

This full-year, comprehensive, faith-based sexuality education program provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. Youth are expected to attend each class, which will meet from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. (noon) twice a month.

This class is only available to youth whose parents/guardians attend a parent orientation.

Youth Group for 8th to 12th grades

Youth group is intended to create a sense of belonging and identity for adolescents in the congregation—and of course, be a lot of fun. The group will meet weekly throughout the year for a wide variety of activities. Youth group and 8th & 9th grade OWL will both meet twice a month and then the whole cohort will meet for a larger group activity once a month.

Service Opportunities for Families and Adults

Please tell us a little about what level/frequency of help you might be able to offer our program.  While we do have many folks who are not currently parenting children or youth who contribute time and energy to our programs, we also know that participation is one of the best ways for parents/guardians to get connected and learn and grow in UU faith.

Our church is supported by members' and friends' contributions

There is no registration fee for any of these programs.  We want all families with a desire to participate in our faith community to do so, regardless of financial resources.  However, if you are able, please consider making a financial pledge of support (in any amount) to the congregation.  See https://mluc.org/annual-fund-pledge-2025-26/.
Thank you!

Thank you for completing this registration form.  We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, community building, worship, showing up on the side of love, and leadership.
